Construction Project Estimating Calculators

Solid cost estimates are the foundation of every successful construction project. Use these calculators to establish a realistic budget for labor, materials, and total project cost before breaking ground.

About Construction Project Estimating

Construction cost estimating is the process of forecasting the total expenditure required to complete a building project. A complete estimate covers three categories: direct materials (lumber, concrete, roofing, etc.), direct labor (framing crew, electrician, plumber, etc.), and indirect costs (permits, inspections, equipment rental, site preparation, and contractor overhead and profit).

New residential construction typically costs $100–$400 per square foot depending on region, finish level, and current market conditions. Remodeling projects are often more expensive per square foot than new construction because of the work involved in removing and integrating with existing systems. Major city and coastal markets command 40–80% premiums over rural and Midwest baselines.

Volume calculations — cubic yards for concrete and bulk materials, cubic feet for container loads and storage — are foundational to any material takeoff. Converting accurately between square footage, linear footage, and volumetric measures prevents the most common estimating mistakes: ordering in the wrong unit or failing to account for depth. Our unit conversion calculators make this step straightforward and error-free.
