Masonry work — bricks, CMU blocks, natural stone — requires careful planning for both unit counts and mortar volumes. Mortar joints vary from 3/8 inch to 1/2 inch depending on the application, and even small variations in joint thickness can meaningfully change how many bags of mortar you'll need. Our calculators account for standard joint sizing and automatically add waste factors.
Concrete is ordered by the cubic yard (27 cubic feet). Most residential slabs are 4 inches thick; driveways are typically 4–6 inches; footings are sized by the structural engineer's design. When ordering from a ready-mix supplier, always round up to the nearest quarter yard and confirm the minimum order quantity — most suppliers have a 1-yard minimum, and short loads carry a surcharge.
